Oh my. I’ve just had a monumental flashback. Ireland. As a boy. Bonkers relatives. Various ugly Popes scowling at me from ugly wood frames. Mad aunts scrubbing the poor boy’s tender-skinned face with handkerchiefed spittle before mass. Someone save me.
